Kangaroo Building Works carries out emergency make safe work across Perth, Rockingham and Mandurah. Make safe is the first thing that happens after damage: before anything can be repaired, the property has to be made weathertight and secure, so that nobody gets hurt and the damage stops getting worse.
We get called out after winter storm fronts, fallen branches, burst pipes, vehicle impact, attempted break-ins and vandalism. The job is usually the same shape each time – get there, work out what is unsafe, clear it or close it off, seal the building up, and record what we found.
Once a property is secure we can carry straight on with the carpentry and maintenance repairs that follow: doors, frames, windows, ceilings, trim, cabinetry, fencing and decking. We do not take on structural repair work. If what has happened has affected the structure of the building, we will tell you honestly and point you to the right trade rather than take it on ourselves.

What emergency make safe work covers
Depending on what has happened, a make safe visit can include any of the following:
- Temporary roof cover – tarping and battening a roof that has lost tiles or sheeting, so the ceilings and contents below stay dry until the roof can be properly repaired.
- Board-up and glass – boarding broken windows, doors and shopfronts after a break-in or an impact, and clearing away loose and broken glass safely.
- Doors, windows and locks – refitting or replacing damaged doors, frames, locks and hardware, so the building can be properly locked up again the same day.
- Removing hazards – taking down branches, broken patio sheeting, loose fascia, hanging gutter and anything else that is likely to fall.
- Securing the perimeter – temporary fencing and lock-up where a property has been left open, which matters most where there is a pool or where children can get in.
- Water damage first response – lifting wet flooring and cutting out saturated linings so that everything can dry out properly instead of staying wet and going mouldy.
- Ceiling make safe – bringing down a ceiling that is holding water, in a controlled way, before it comes down on its own.
- Fences and gates – standing up or removing collapsed fencing where it has become a safety or a security problem.
- Clearing and tidying – getting the debris out so the property is usable and safe to walk around again.
- Photos and a written record – a record of the damage as we found it and of the work we carried out, for your own records.
